Landing in JFK New York was the most significant event at that point in my life.

I honestly could not believe my eyes.. I couldn’t believe myself. I did it. I accomplished my big and impossible dream.

Yes, there was a long and challenging path to get to the USA on my own from a small Ukrainian village and a poor family to the land of opportunities.

However, seeing and experiencing the buzz and excitement of the Big Apple was something I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real.

I was like a kid in a candy shop with eyes wide open full of awe and amazement.

That was to the great benefit to an unscrupulous taxi driver. He charged me $150 for a ride from the airport to the hotel, explaining NY city is very expensive.

I didn’t really believe it, but I had no other option other than give the money.

I also spent about $80 on a hotel room as well. The first night in the USA I ended up spending nearly half of the money I brought with me to build my life in America.

Dreams are free. The road to the realisation of your dreams is very expensive.

But you know what, I have learned, life rewards those with the proactive attitude…
